Target Audience

Lumary’s landscape lights are ideal for homeowners looking to add a modern, tech-savvy touch to their outdoor spaces. These lights are perfect for enhancing garden parties, creating a tranquil ambiance on the patio, or even improving security.

Even if you’re a total smart home beginner, you can still use these lights. The only requirements are a Wi-Fi connection and a smartphone.

Design and Build Quality

The lights are primarily constructed from metal. Each fixture has an adjustable-angle aluminum mounting bracket, a sturdy aluminum casing, and metal internal components. Given the price, I initially expected the housing to be plastic, so I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent build quality.

The lights come pre-wired, with approximately 8 feet of cable between each light. There’s a low-voltage (12V) receptacle that connects to landscape wiring. If you don’t have landscape wiring, like me, you can use the included AC adapter and plug it into a standard outlet.

The IP65 rating ensures durability and resistance to weather elements. So far, these lights have held up well through a summer of intense sunlight and heavy rain. A quick cleaning is all they need to look brand new.

Installation and Setup

The installation process is straightforward, requiring minimal tools and effort.

Each light comes with a pre-installed bracket that includes a hole for mounting with a screw or bolt. Alternatively, you can use the included plastic stakes for a more flexible and less permanent setup.

The Lumary lights connect via Wi-Fi, and setup is simple using the Lumary app. Like most Wi-Fi smart home devices, they operate on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. If you already use the Smart Life app, you can use it instead of downloading another app. From what we could tell, the Lumary app doesn’t offer any unique features compared to the Smart Life app. However, the Lumary app does have the added “benefit” of frequent notifications about their latest products and deals.

Performance

The lights perform admirably, casting a vibrant, customizable glow that enhances any outdoor space. They respond almost instantly to app controls and voice commands, with smooth transitions and rich colors.

As far as we can tell, the lights use RGBWW (RGB with warm white), and the “AI” component refers to an internal controller that blends colors more smoothly and accurately. This technology works remarkably well, as the color transitions are seamless. There are no jerky shifts or odd blending effects. In some patterns, the transitions are so smooth that you must look closely to notice the colors changing.

Each light produces a maximum of 200 lumens, roughly equivalent to a 25W incandescent bulb. Fortunately, this is sufficient for creating a pleasant accent in a nighttime outdoor setting. For our setup, these lights had more than enough lumens.

In my case, I mounted the lights directly to my fence, shining upward and slightly angled toward it. The light only needs to travel 1–5 feet to create the desired ambiance. However, if you’re trying to highlight an object much farther away (10–15 feet), the limited brightness could be an issue, particularly if other ambient lighting is present.

User Experience

Setup is straightforward with the Lumary app, but controlling the lights could be more intuitive. While basic functions like on/off and brightness adjustment are simple, the app’s interface is not user-friendly. We figured out how to use it mostly by trial and error.

The most confusing part is setting up a custom pattern for the lights. After experimenting for a while, we decided it wasn’t worth the effort, as the app already offers a substantial selection of pre-programmed patterns ready for use.

The Wi-Fi connection has been solid and reliable, with the lights responding quickly and consistently to changes.

Support and Warranty

Lumary backs their product with a standard one-year warranty and offers comprehensive customer support. As Lumary is a reputable company (not a questionable Amazon brand), you can expect reliable assistance if you encounter any issues.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking to add ambiance to your backyard at a great price, it’s hard to beat these Lumary lights. With just 1–2 hours of installation time, you can have these lights set up with schedules and voice control for mostly hands-off operation. The final step? Invite some friends over and impress them with these stunning effects that make any outdoor space look better than it is!
